Subspecialty: Nephrology
Dr. Weizhen Tan was born in Malaysia but grew up in Newton, MA. He went to college at Dartmouth in NH before medical school at UMass in Worcester. He completed residency in New Haven, CT at Yale New Haven Hospital before coming back to Boston to complete his fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology.
During his fellowship Dr. Tan worked in the laboratory of Friedhelm Hildebrandt, where he cultivated his interest in the genetics of kidney disease, with a focus on nephrotic syndrome. His main projects included characterizing the landscape of genetic disease in nephrotic syndrome patients both worldwide and in our local cohort at BCH using targeted multigene panel sequencing and then whole exome sequencing.
He joined the faculty at MGHfC in August 2017 primarily in a clinical role.
When not in the office, Dr. Tan likes to spend time with his wife and four children in Newton, where they currently live.
