Subspecialty: Primary Care
Dr. Scott-Vernaglia is the MGfC Associate Chief for Clinical Faculty Development and a senior pediatrician in the MGfC Pediatric Group Practice. Originally from Long Island, she first came to Boston to attend Harvard College. She returned to New York for medical school at SUNY Stony Brook where she tried to be open-minded about specialty but was always pulled back to caring for children. The warmth and welcome she felt from faculty and residents, led her to fall in love with MGHfC during the interview season. She was drawn to the model of caring for children within a larger general hospital system which allows you to leverage the extensive expertise and resources of all departments to improve care. Dr. Scott-Vernaglia stayed on with the program after her training, serving as a Pediatric Chief Resident and subsequently joined the Residency administrative team first as an Associate PD and then as the Program Director from 2019-2021. Her academic interests include simulation, building resiliency in trainees, medical errors and narrative medicine. She is passionate about physician mental health and reducing stigma and has published and spoken on this topic nationally. She maintains an active general pediatrics practice in the Yawkey-based MGHfC Pedi Group Practice, where she loves caring for patients and families in a setting that also allows for the teaching of medical students and residents. She loves to garden, bake, and read. In addition to her MGHfC extended family, she has a wonderful husband, Brian. Together they are engaged in their own adventure in parenting, raising two incredible young women Marina and Rebecca who love to bake, read, dance, and see Broadway shows.
