Subspecialty: Infectious Disease
Dr. Powis has lived throughout the United States, spending most of her school age years in California. She attended California State University of Long Beach as an undergraduate and obtained an MBA at University of Richmond before pursuing her medical degree at Medical College of Virginia. She trained in the Harvard Combined Internal Medicine – Pediatrics Residency program and served as a Chief Resident for the program. Following residency, Kate completed a Women’s Health Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and obtained here MPH from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She continues to provide clinical care to pediatric and adult patients at Massachusetts General Hospital’s community health center in Chelsea. She is also NIH funded, investigating ways to optimize the health of women living with HIV and their children. She has ongoing research in Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia and the United States. She works with the World Health Organization on health policy to optimize outcomes of children affected by HIV and is a member of the United States Department of Health and Human Services Panel on Antiretroviral Therapy and Medical Management of Children Living with HIV.
