Pelton Turbine

The Pelton wheel was patented in 1889 by an American engineer, Lester Pelton. This kind of impulse turbine, intended for high heads, is often used in hydroelectric power plants.

Here, a small Pelton turbine is inserted into a closed hydraulic circuit and used to light an LED.

A small demonstration of how renewable hydroelectric energy is produced.

EUREKA!

A slow motion view of the high speed jet impinging the wheel and causing its rotation. Thanks to the connection to a small motor the motor kinetic energy is transformed into electric power and used to light a small LED.

The buckets are curved and have a high central ridge, hence the incoming flow is divided and redirected backwards.
