Hello! My name is Daniel Song, and I am a Senior at New Trier High School. Music has always played an influential role in my life, shaping how I express myself and helping me connect with others in ways words alone never could. I have played Piano (my main instrument) for 13 years, and have played Cello for 11 years. I have used my talent in music to help many others, whether it be through volunteering at hospitals or community services. I am the accompanist of Only Christ Church of Chicago, located in Northbrook. I have dedicated countless hours to practice to improve my musicality and technical skill, learning under the teaching of Dr. Jeong Min Lee (Piano) and Mrs. Soo Jeong Lee (Cello). Aside from classical music, I am an avid jazz pianist, specifically gospel piano. My versatile knowledge in a variety of music allows me to use my musical knowledge in many fields. I am an active member of the New Trier Music & Theatre Department, participating in the New Trier Symphony Orchestra and musical productions. Stephen and I have participated as pianists for numerous New Trier Musical Productions, most notably Footloose, Seussical, and Brigadoon.
Thank you for taking part in my journey to provide support for fellow music lovers.
Greetings! My name is Stephen Stolyarov, and I’m a junior at New Trier High School. Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s always felt like the most natural way for me to express myself, especially when words fall short.I started playing piano at six years old, and what began as a simple curiosity quickly became a long-term commitment. For the past six years, I’ve studied with Dr. Barbara Kreader, whose teaching has played a huge role in my development. Her ability to challenge me while still offering support has helped me stay motivated, push my limits, and gradually find my own style and voice at the piano. Thanks to her guidance, the piano has become more than just an instrument—it’s a creative outlet and a steady part of my life. It’s helped me process emotions, explore ideas, and communicate in a way that feels honest, even if quiet. This past July, I attended Interlochen Arts Camp as a piano major. One of the highlights was observing a masterclass led by world-renowned pianist Lang Lang. His insights on interpretation and musical intent gave me a new perspective on how to approach the pieces I play. Just as meaningful, though, was getting to meet other students who shared my interests. It was the first time I’d been around so many people my age who care deeply about music, and I really enjoyed connecting with them. At school, I’m involved in the New Trier Music & Theatre Department. I perform with the New Trier Symphony Orchestra and have played in several choir-opera productions, including Footloose, Seussical, and Brigadoon.
Thanks for taking the time to read about me!
