MexaLink connects researchers with leading labs in Europe, the US, and Canada for short-term research stays, enabling them to perform experiments that are less accessible in Mexico. These experiences will not only enrich their projects but also broaden their horizons for future opportunities in top research environments worldwide.
MexaLink is specifically designed to facilitate the placement of Mexican researchers whose projects require techniques, resources, models and/or expertise not available in Mexico. After the scientific exchange has been completed, MexaLink participants may return to their labs in Mexico and disseminate their expertise.
Mexalink is seeking motivated researchers enrolled at a Mexican University who want to gain international research experience.
PhD students with a minimum of 1 year of graduate-level research experience.
Post-doctoral fellows.
Undergraduate and Master's Degree students will not be considered.
MexaLink will not consider applicants who wish solely to learn scientific techniques, attend conferences, courses, or workshops abroad.
By joining MexaLink, you’ll expand your scientific horizons, build a strong international science network, and contribute to the global scientific community—all while maintaining strong ties to research in Mexico.
You should aim to complete a small series of experiments that are fundamental to the progression of your doctoral or post-doctoral research project. Therefore, the scientific overlap and experimental rationales will be a strong factor in the selection of MexaLink candidates.
Short-term research stays (typically 3–6 months) in leading labs abroad
Mentorship and networking opportunities with international researchers
Support in finding funding for travel and living expenses
Skill development in cutting-edge research environments
MexaLink has not yet secured concrete funding for this initiative, but when a suitable match between a researcher and host lab has been made, we will help students in their application for funding.
Step 1: Apply to the scheme (see link below). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by a steering committee.
Step 2: Approved applicants will be notified and matched with a PI. The student will arrange a meeting by Zoom and discuss logistics.
Step 3: After both parties agree to the match, they must arrange visa, accommodation and financing arrangements on a case-by-case basis. The student and PI can discuss applying for small grants, otherwise the home lab will cover travel costs, and the student will use their PhD stipend to cover food and accommodation costs.
