LEADING RESEARCHER
I am an interdisciplinary scholar with training in mixed methods and experience in interdisciplinary collaborations. Bridging across urban planning, economics and philosophy, my research studies how formal and informal institutions respond to key issues of social justice and sustainable development amidst rapid urbanisation. My empirical research has focused on property rights and planning standards in the informal settlements of African cities, underscoring the importance of designing institutions aligned with local de-facto regulations and community demands. My current work aims to develop methodologies to advance the empirical enquiry of de-facto land rights and justice systems, advancing literature on urban informality, governance, and regulation in planning and aligned disciplines.
