META Scholarship
The META Scholarship is intended to recognize and support high school seniors and/or college students to pursue their higher education academic goals based on their academic achievement and multilingual/multicultural abilities.

in Memory of Dr. Tove Skutnabb-Kangas
This year’s META scholarships are being awarded in memory of Dr. Skutnabb-Kangas, a Finish linguist and educator and a champion of linguistic human rights, minority education and the restoration of indigenous languages. Dr. Skutnabb-Kangas embodied META’s mission and vision of supporting students to pursue their higher education academic goals and capacitate themselves to carry out her legacy as proponents of inguistic human rights and social justic for all.
REQUIRED ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Be residents or attend high school in Stanislaus County and college student applicants must have completed high school in the county (META members in good standing may nominate students from outside of Stanislaus County);
Continue their education at an institution of higher education;
Demonstrate academic preparation required to enter or continue in an institution of higher education, and;
Indicate intent to continue to study a world language and pursue a career area where multilingual/multicultural competence is an asset to the selected profession
DESIRABLE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants who verify completion of one or more of the following academic certificates will receive priority in the selection process:
Earned Seal of Biliteracy;
A score of 3 or above in an Advanced Placement exam in a world language, and;
An International Baccalaureate certificate or diploma
AMOUNT
Scholarships amount range from $500 to $2,000 per award.

Applications for the META scholarship can be downloaded at the following link: Completed applications need to be emailed to: duarte.silva@stanford.edu by March 30, 2024. Applications will be reviewed by a member of the META Executive Board and awards will be made by May 1st 2024.
