The department of Physics was established in 1966( Pre-University) and B.Sc (PCM) was started in 1969. It has carved a niche for itself both within the college and among the colleges affiliated to Bangalore University. Since 2018, MES Degree College is affiliated to Bangalore Central University. The strength of the department lies in the team of highly motivated and qualified faculty. Currently the department has eleven faculty members with varied specialization and three non teaching Lab Assistants/Attenders.

The senior faculty of the department are and have been on the Board of studies of Physics (UG) of BCU,BU and several Autonomous colleges in Bangalore. It is a matter of pride that many of our students have pursued Physics as a career and are occupting responsible positions in reputed industries, Research Laboratories, Institutions of Higher learning including Universities and Colleges both in India and abroad
