The harbour area, West Mersea is still a working fishing port and as such has all you would expect to see and experience in such a place. From the world-famous oysters that you can enjoy at the various eateries (other seafood is available). This area of West Mersea has also been used in many television dramas, explore the harbour and see if you can spot those familiar sites.
The town centre has many boutique shops that offer a slice of the coast and the opportunity for a leisurely browse happy in the knowledge that there's a delicious cocktail just around the corner at the White Hart. If its a bit of history you are after then the small but fascinating Mersea Museum is in this area. Ideal if you are like me and want a little bit of local history knowledge but don't want to take 8 hrs over it.
Take in the beautiful avenues leading down to the ever-popular Seaview beach, maybe walk out onto one of the spits at low tide to contemplate or just have a paddle as the waves gently lap your feet. Admire the much-photographed pastel beach huts.
For the more adventurous, set off for the middle of the island to visit Mersea Island Vineyard where you can sample some fine local produce.
Finally, the peace of Cudmore Grove, take time to relax in a park that meets the sea. Offering plenty of running around or just walking space to explore, wave to Brightlingsea or even take the foot ferry.
