Brave Hat (picture coming soon!)

Gauge: 20 stitches by 15 rows on size 6(4 mm) needles in stockinette unblocked = 3.5” wide by 1.75” tall

CO 112 stitches, divide evenly onto 3 DPN (38, 38, 36). Join in the round being careful not to twist. It will fit a 20-23" head.

R1: K2, P2 repeat ribbing. Knit 25 rows in this ribbing.

Switch to size 4.5mm/7 needles

Set-up row: knit all stitches. About midway, decrease one stitch, k2tog.

Body of the hat

R1:* k7, p1* end k7

R2: p1, *k5, p1, k1, p1* end k5, p1

R3: k1, p1, *k3, p1* end k1

R4: k2, p1, *k1, p1, k5, p1* end k2

R5: k1, p1, k1, p1, *k7, p1* end k3

R6 k2, p1 *k to end

R7: knit all

Repeat rows 1-7 until hat measures about 10” from CO.

Crown shaping:

R1:* k2tog* end k1

R2: knit all stitches

R3: k2tog across

R4: knit all stitches

R5: k2tog across

R6: k2tog across.

Cut a 4” tail, weave through live stitches and weave in the ends!

Dog Hat Pattern

Merino y Vino DK weight yarn

Size #7 needles 

Gauge: 20 sts = 3.5” in stock inerte unblocked

For a toddler with 18.5” head circumference. I did negative 1.5” ease so the hat hugs the head a bit. 

Fits 12 months to 2.5 years

CO 98 sts. I used the cable cast on. Divide evenly onto 3 DPN (32, 33, and 33 sts). If using two circs or magic loop, place a stitch marker at the beginning and after 32 and 65 sts. Join in the round being careful not to twist. 

R1-35: K1P1 all around  

R36-58: k2tog, cont in pattern until next needle/st marker, k2tog, cont in pattern until 3rd needle/marker, k2tog. 

Basically decrease 3 sts evenly each row

Now there should be 29 sts left (10, 10, 9 I. Each section). 

R59 : k2tog across all sts

R60: (k2tog) twice, k1 repeat

9 sts remain. Break yarn with 6” tail, close up the live sts and weave in the ends. 

 Ears (Make 2)

Cast on 25 sts in grey. Start at the base of the ear.

Rows 1 to 7: Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st.

Row 8: [K1, ssk, K7, k2tog] twice, K1. (21 sts)

Rows 9 to 11: Starting on a WS purl row, work in st st.

Row 12: [K1, ssk, K5, k2tog] twice, K1. (17 sts)

Row 13: Purl.

Row 14: [K1, ssk, K3, k2tog] twice, K1. (13 sts)

Row 15: Purl.

Row 16: [K1, ssk, K1, k2tog] twice, K1. (9 sts)

Row 17: Purl.

Row 18: [K2tog] four times, K1. (5 sts)

Row 19: Purl.

Pull through to cast off.

Ears: Sew the side edges together. Sew the cast on edge onto the top of the head with the seamed edge at the bottom. Weave in ends and enjoy!
