My name is Meredith Perkins and I am a writer and editor based in Bloomington, IN. As an MPA-MIA student and Paul H. O'Neill Fellow at the Indiana University O'Neill School, I am passionate about using writing as a tool for advancing the public good. Prior to O'Neill, I graduated Miami University with degrees in English and diplomacy.
As an essayist, I have published dozens of Op-Eds cross local, state, and national publications, winning Best Editorial Writing in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 4 Mark of Excellence Awards in both 2024 and 2025. I co-served as Editor-in-Chief of Miami Political Review, Miami's first non-partisan public policy magazine, and interned as the Cincinnati Enquirer's first-ever Opinion desk intern during the 2024 election cycle. Beyond essay writing, I enjoy writing longform fiction and currently have a coming-of-age novel in-progress I plan to query next spring.
As an editor, I have five years of academic and professional writing consulting experience. I enjoy organizing writing workshops and publishing research in writing center studies journals. My private essay consulting service information is available under the "Consulting" tab.
Professionally, my career interests lie at the intersection of writing, public policy analysis, and community engagement.
On this website, I have compiled an archive of all my published writing and journalism in one convenient spot.
