In the few months that the camp is up and running, MERAKI has already built a reputation for its deliciously tasty food. The food is prepared with attention and love by our chef with mother’s heart. Our chef Ismail is very creative, every day there is a completely different palet of colours and flavors on the table. The menu is very suitable for vegetarians and vegans, we have lots of lentils, chickpeas and ful (an Egyptian staple dish). Also we serve many different kinds of salads with greens and sprouts, creating more healthy options for health lovers. We bake homemade fresh bread every day. We serve juices, fruit salads, kombucha, many kinds of herbal tea, coffee, homemade ice cream and peanutbutter. And... of course we have cakes.
You could say that our menu is continuously evolving, depending on the needs of the guests and the season.
Am Said is our local fisherman, and he catches the most fresh fish. A few hours after he caught it, it is already being served, giving thanks to him and to the fish for providing us with nutritious food.
In general we try to be very aware of our meat consumption, for the animals and for the environment. The breakfast is always vegetarian and the dinner on many nights as well. We eat chicken sometimes, which we buy from the chicken shop (to avoid frozen factory chickens). Very rarely we serve beef or lamb but not often (only when asked for). We don’t serve pork.
