Don't be afraid; everyone feels anxious from time to time. Being anxious is healthy every now and then. It's our brains' way of saying that it's tired and needs to rest. Only when you start feeling anxious way too much that it becomes a medical disorder.
Figure 1: a representation of what triggers anxiety
Anxiety isn't just feeling nervous or just overthinking- it's much more than that. Overthinking is a part of anxiety, in addition to other physical symptoms such as being "on edge", sleep disorders, hyper-ventilating, and light and/or noise sensitivity. An anxious person always has his fight or flight mode on, meaning any small change or surprise will make him feel scared. Any anxious person is frequently worried, and these worries interfere with every day activities.
So, before you start your journey into this website, here's a small test to see if you REALLY have anxiety, not just anxious responses.
If your score was:
0-14: you don't have to worry about anxiety; it's in the normal range where everybody must be.
14-28: you're still within the safe space, but you better watch out from developing more serious symptoms of anxiety.
28-42: you're in the risky zone. Try going to a therapist or a specialist who can help you with your problems.
Cancelling plans
Not responding to texts or calls
Lack of eye contact
Distancing from others
Asking someone to repeat themselves
Being irritated by the slightest things
Anxious people do NOT do this on purpose. They do this because they're scared of:
Big crowds
'Unsafe' situations
Loud noises
People who don't have anxiety must be aware of these symptoms of anxiety, because people who do them don't do them on purpose. We need to understand them and help them in overcoming these symptoms. If you want to find out more about how to support someone with anxiety, click here.

"Mental Thrive" was founded by Aya Chami, whose goal was to raise awareness about mental health and specifically about anxiety, since she has it too, and feels that most people don't have a clue on how to help people who have anxiety or don't know how to deal with their anxiety. This website is only the start of Aya's journey, as she hopes to raise awareness about other mental illnesses as well, because this is something that is greatly needed in a world like ours.
