April 21 City Nature Challenge Orientation


Who: Any nature enthusiasts or nature-curious people. No experience necessary.


What: A collaborative presentation by Mendocino County natural resource professionals and environmental organizations to share information about the special places they steward and opportunities for the public to explore Mendocino County nature. This presentation will help the public participate in the upcoming global City Nature Challenge (April 30- May 3) and will include information on the iNaturalist platform, best practices for spending time in the outdoors, and resources for enjoying nature in Mendocino County.

Mendocino County 2021 City Nature Challenge

April 30 - May 3 City Nature Challenge


The City Nature Challenge embraces the healing power of nature and celebrates tens of thousands of people all around the world, searching for and documenting their local biodiversity, together in this event. All you need to do is to take photos of the plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms you see in your backyard, local park, school yard, or in any urban, suburban, or rural area in Mendocino County. Or, join an official event listed below.


Then upload your observations to iNaturalist, using the free app, so you can help us document nature in Mendocino County. Whether you spend an hour or a whole day in nature, individuals, families, and social pods will all enjoy participating in the City Nature Challenge. All experience levels and nature-curious people are welcome!
