In this video, Cherie Lindberg discusses the process that happens during a brainspotting session. She explains the connection between the brain and the body in how trauma is stored and how it affects people in negative ways. She also discusses how a person, in a dually-attuned relationship with a therapist can access these traumatic memories through a "brainspot" in our visual field.
In this video, brainspotting creator, David Grand, discusses brain anatomy and how trauma becomes stored within the brain. He also discusses how brainspotting works to help people discharge that trauma so that it doesn't continue to have the impact it once had.
I use brainspotting in conjunction with other modalities. For example, I have received training in using brainspotting with HeartMath to help clients identify whether their autonomic nervous system is in or out of balance. Then through resonant breathing and brainspotting sessions, we can move your autonomic nervous system back into balance. I have also been working with combining brainspotting with some Internal Family Systems techniques and with Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques.
