We visited some of the famous and notable places that tourists may visit during a trip to Memphis
The Memphis HST on Beale St. in Downtown Memphis
Our visit to the National Civil Rights Museum
Our team visited the National Civil Rights Museum which is at the site of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It traces the history of African Americans in this country from the slave trade through today, focusing on the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950's - 60's. It is another popular destination for people of all races, ages, and backgrounds to learn about the racial history of our country. This museum promotes the appearance of diversity and progress in Memphis.
We were also able to immerse ourselves in impoverished communities and see their experiences first hand.
HST doing a variety of work at the First Congo Food Justice Ministries
We worked several days with the Food Justice Ministries at First Congregational Church in Memphis. Here we met people from all different backgrounds who were experiencing food insecurity and we served food to them. We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with a lot of these individuals and learned about their lives. Memphis has a very high number of people who are food insecure and that was very evident to us when we worked with the Food Justice Ministry.
