When traveling through Alentejo the central part has some significant sites to see. Like Alto (high) and Baixo (lower) Alentejo, it has no coast and it borders with Spain in the east. It has one of the two cities that are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage and some of the best wines come from this part of Portugal. Almost all villages and towns show the history of an exciting and stimulating past. Just some examples:

Évora: Listed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. A little bit touristic maybe, but it has a huge amount of history that brings you back in time.
Estremoz: A nice little town where every Saturday (until 13.00) the local market attracts people for the whole region. Here you can buy you fresh vegetables, local sausages & cheeses and good Presunto (cured ham). However next to all this, the market offers a second hand selling of antiques and local crafts products.
Borba: Wine village par excellence. One of the best times for visiting Borba is during the Festa do Vinho e da Vinha (Wine Festival), in November. It is also an ideal occasion for tasting the wine produced in this region and discovering the local handicraft and cuisine.
Montemor-o-Novo: The most traversed and yet least known places in Portugal, time to discover it. Recommended!
Mora: One of the richest cork plantation regions and home of the Fluviário (Zoos and Aquariums). Discover the rivers and lakes. Their inhabitants. Their secrets. Their beauty.
Redondo: The Alentejo town of Redondo has become particularly important for the Portuguese economy as a result of its two main regional products: pottery and wine. But when visiting at the end of July / beginning of August you have to visit the Festa das Flores( flower festival), where the whole population of Redondo makes the streets into one paper flower fairytale. Please ask us if it is actually happening, because if they are not able to make all every year, they may skip one!
Reguengos de Monsaraz: A beautiful hilltop village with the oldest bull fight ring and close to the largest man-made lake in Europe: barragem de Alqueva. Stay in this medieval small town to enjoy good food and high quality wines under the stars.
Vila Viçosa: Especially known for the marble extracted and cut at more than 160 quarries. Internationally famous (especially the pink marble), visit the Tons de Mármore to see how it is made!
