Leigh graduated with a MSc in Applied Sciences (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Cape Town in 2002. Following a short stint in upstream oil services (Schlumberger), Leigh joined a research-orientated non-governmental organisation (NGO) at the University of Cape Town that focussed on creating awareness for disaster management and mitigation.
She eventually joined the Mechanical Engineering department at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) as a mathematics lecturer. Leigh has taught on both the Mechanical and Mechatronics programmes. During this time, she became actively involved in the development and implementation of numerous student integrated projects.
Recently, she completed a postgraduate diploma (PgDip) in Higher Education, with an elective in Blended Teaching, Learning and Assessment.
Xavier graduated from the University of Cape Town with a MSc in Geology. He has gained practical and professional experience as an educator and lecturer, and has previously worked in research and the mining industry. As a geologist and technical consultant, Xavier was exposed to the practicalities and uses of environmental assessments (EIAs and EMPs). He has also gained some understanding of Environmental Law.
As a lecturer at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). Xavier taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate subjects from Computer Skills, Calculations & Statistics, Geotechnology I, II, Population Ecology and core undergraduate courses in Environmental Management. He is currently a part-time lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering department at CPUT where he occasionally teaches an elective Environmental Awareness course to Mechanical Engineering students.
Xavier has completed numerous online courses on different learning platforms, focussing on science, education, science writing and the development of curricula.
Currently, Xavier provides the technical expertise behind the production of screencast videos for his wife's mathematics course.
Mellivora capensis is the scientific name for a honey badger (or commonly known in South Africa as a ratel). We believe this small but tenacious animal is a perfect mascot for our small company, and it goes hand-in-hand with our moto "Per ardua ad astra" - "Through adversity to the stars"
