Our courses follow the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation ) instructional design framework. This system entails the following process:
Analysis - Determine and understand the outcomes of a course
Design - Outline the teaching methods (eg video lectures, use of discussion groups), timeframes, assessment and feedback methods
Development - Create and test the course
Implementation - Make the course available to the student through the Learner Management System (LMS)
Evaluation - Get feedback from students so as to continually improve a course.
One of our key areas of expertise is integrating graduate attributes (or Exit Level Outcomes) into project-based learning. Graduate attributes are the skills that a course (or training) aims to develop. One example could be the ability to apply scientific and engineering knowledge to a given problem, or using one aspect of study (i.e. applied mathematics) to solve a practical or even a design problem. As outlined by the Engineering Council of Southern Africa (ECSA), graduate attributes can also have societal ramifications, for instance considering how an engineering design or application can have specific public health, safety, cultural or even environmental considerations.
All our course designs take into account the graduate attributes that may be dictated by specific statutory bodies like ECSA, the South African Council for Educators (SACE), the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) and others.
Additionally,
We follow Biggs' constructive alignment in developing learning materials. This entails making sure that the teaching and assessment strategies align with the outcome goals of a specific course. If a course aims to teach the principles of project management, we would develop learning materials that include activities like group discussions and a project report as an assessment.
We use a blended learning approach by using the advantages of software and online platforms to enhance learning. This is particularly important for those who are unable to participate in face-to-face classes. We can create opportunities for synchronous ( at a set time) as well as asynchronous (anytime) learning. In terms of software, we encourage our clients to opt for open-source varieties, for instance, OBS Studio (to record lessons).
