Mission
The Salt Lake Community College Occupational Therapy clinic provide students with educational experiences and opportunities focused on developing clinical, professional, and behavioral skills while providing pro-bono therapy services to underserved, underinsured, and uninsured community clients.
Objectives:
1. Provide students in OTA program exposure to the basic operations of a therapy clinic.
2. Provide students in OTA program with hands-on supervised experience for therapy interventions, documentation, and the development and improvement of professional behaviors.
3. Provide students in OTA opportunity to develop soft skills; gain an awareness of one’s therapeutic use of self; become exposed to a variety of age-groups, cultures, injuries, and disabilities; and celebrate client diversity.
4. Provide OTA faculty professional clinical development through clinical practice.
5. Provide the community with pro bono skilled occupational therapy services.
I got the opportunity to participate in the SLCC pro-bono occupational therapy clinic, I was able to shadow second years doing therapy sessions both on-site and through telehealth, I got to see and learn so much through these clinics
I learned that through the clinics, we are able to provide people with occupational therapy while learning, I learned about activity analysis and how you asses and go through cognition testing, including ACL testing and how to give that assessment, and how to teach and apply energy conservation strategies.
I loved being able to participate in the community in this clinic and have learned so much from being able to shadow the second years. I am excited to be able to lead the clinics next semester, learn more, and help people in the community.
