For these assignments, I conducted in-depth research about the types of data collection. After analyzing my research topic - the association between adult TD sibs' mental health and their sibling relationship - I concluded that the best collection method was a survey. The infographic assignment helped me learn more about the types of questions included in surveys, testing a survey before sending it to intended population, and distribution and response rate restrictions. I enjoyed designing the infographic, even though it took a while to format. From the information I learned about surveys, I began to think about how my survey will be distributed and the types of questions that will be included in it. Gathering information about surveys made me want to use questions that were already established as reliable and accurate tools by the academic community; I didn't want to risk distributing an unreliable and biased research tool. Creating the research timeline solidified in my mind how little time I had to create a survey tool, analyze the data, and write a paper on it. The timeline was too short to complete such a large task - this thought magnified and became overwhelming when I received 85 responses to my 49-item survey. I'm still overwhelmed by the timeline as the due date is drawing near, but have accepted my research paper and study doesn't have to be perfect - in fact, nothing in or about science is perfect.
When I created my infographic, I didn't include in-text citations within the explanations of the different types of data collection. By the time I revised this assignment, I had completely forgotten which sentences had originated from the sources included in the Works Cited portion. I acknowledge this error but I don't have the time to correct it. I have learned from my mistake and will always include in-text citations, no matter the project requirements, for other assignments in this class and in future classes. I learn best from my mistakes and try to not repeat them, no matter how minor they might be. I didn't have any revisions to add to my research timeline.
