Area is the amount of space that a 2D shape takes up. It tells you how much surface area the shape takes up and is most often calculated in square units, like square centimeters (cm²), square meters (m²), or square inches (in²). For example, if you are painting a rectangular wall, the area tells you how much paint you will use to cover it. Different shapes have different formulas to calculate area for example, the area of a rectangle is length × width, and the area of a triangle is ½ × base × height.
Area = side × side
Example:
Side = 5 cm
Area = 5 × 5 = 25 cm²
Area = 1/2 × base × height
Example:
Base = 6 cm, Height = 4 cm
Area = 1/2 × 6 × 4 = 12 cm²
⚪ Area of a Circle:
Area = π × radius²
Example:
Radius = 7 cm
Area = π × 7² = π × 49 = 49π cm²
🟦 Area of a Rectangle:
Area = length × width
Example:
Length = 8 cm, Width = 3 cm
Area = 8 × 3 = 24 cm²
