Meet Kutemwa! Kutemwa Ogbu is an emerging health researcher and advocate who seeks to address inequity through activism, computational biology, and global health. She is a Harvard Global Health Leadership Conference Case Study Competition Finalist, a winner of the 2026 NCWIT Aspirations in Computing National Honorable Mention and a 3x Awardee, along with being recognized by the Office of the Texas Governor for her service and leadership in her community.
She has conducted research with the NASA GeneLab, the Army Educational Outreach Program, and the U.S. Department of Education MSEIP Program, exploring the fields of microbiology, genomics, and bioengineering through a multidisciplinary lens. Additionally, as an editor and researcher at Hedonisia Hawaii, she contributed to the publishing of a digital women’s health resource, accessed across 121 countries.
Beyond research, Kutemwa serves as the founder of the Coastal Bend’s first Red Cross Club, Deputy Director and Co-Founder of the Future Healers of the Coastal Bend, and as a Climate for Health Ambassador and Morgan Franklin Foundation Fellow.
Kutemwa’s dedication to social justice, humanity, and health is vivid through each of her involvements, and continues to shine through as she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in public health, where she will continue to be driven by service and a desire for change.
