Here are the main Service Learning Trip dates for Lima, Peru, that our chapter is currently looking at for Winter, Spring, and Summer.
Our selected date as a group will be Summer 2026 in Lima, Peru, May 16th -24th
Don’t be discouraged if it feels like not many people are going on the same dates; MEDLIFE at UH is part of a large global organization, and each trip brings together students from chapters across the country and around the world. Typical groups range from 15 to over 120 volunteers, so you’ll never be going alone.
You are welcome to join our chosen week or any of the listed trips that best fit your schedule. And if these dates don't work, MEDLIFE also offers trips in amazing locations like Riobamba, Ecuador; Tena, Ecuador; Cusco & Lima, Peru; Kilimanjaro, Tanzania; Tamarindo & San José, Costa Rica; and Antigua, Guatemala.
Feel free to ask any officer if you have questions — we’re here to help you find the perfect trip!
Day 1: Arrival to Lima
Arrive at Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) between 5 pm and 11 pm. A MEDLIFE associate will be waiting for you outside of the airport with a MEDLIFE sign. Participants will arrive at the hostel and have the night to settle in at the hotel and recover from the long travel day.
Day 2: Walking Tour & Orientation
Day 2 is an introduction to Lima for all volunteers with a walking tour of Miraflores led by your Trip Leader. In the afternoon, participants can enjoy some free time to explore the area. The evening will be dedicated to an orientation meeting where we will cover what to expect for the week and review safety precautions.
Day 3: Reality Tour
At 2:00 pm, volunteers and Trip Leaders will depart for the Reality Tour, providing your first immersive experience in the urban settlements where MEDLIFE works. Throughout the afternoon, we will explore the harsh realities of living in these settlements and learn about how MEDLIFE works to bridge the gap between Peru’s public health system and low-income families. We will also visit the Mini MED Center in the community of Union Santa Fe for a firsthand look at MEDLIFE projects. Additionally, we will participate in a community meeting during the evening. Return to the hostel is expected around 8:00 pm.
Day 4-7: Mobile Clinic
Every day, Mobile Clinics visit different communities, with travel times ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours due to traffic. Upon arrival, volunteers assist in unloading medical supplies and meet health professionals for a brief training session before the clinic opens at 8-9 am. Volunteers work until lunch around 11:30 am and then switch to their afternoon station. Clinics close between 1-3 pm, depending on patient volume.
Throughout the week, volunteers may also contribute to community Development Projects. Evenings include interactive activities before dinner, and on free days, volunteers are encouraged to explore the city.
Day 8: Optional Tourism Activities
Exploring Ica & Paracas (Full day experience), explore Peruvian history and diverse ecosystems on a thrilling journey from penguin-filled islands to expansive desert dunes.
