Martin Luther was a Catholic theologian, born 1486, who preached and wrote criticisms against the Catholic church.
He was particularly critical of the Church/State union previously discussed.
He also criticized the Catholics for corruption, greed, and immorality. He called the Pope the antiChrist.
His writings against the Catholics were very inflammatory.
Luther was excommunicated by the Church and assumed dead, but in reality only in hiding.
While in hiding, people claiming to be Luther's followers began a war against the Catholic church.
