The general objectives of the proposal are 1) to observe the sustainability of concrete in a broader and wider way, in fact the use of recycled materials yields to a better management of natural resources and at the same time produces efficient materials, with consequent economic and environmental added value; 2) to develop "bottom-up" forms of active citizenship, empowerment and sustainable agency at the local level; 3) to promote, through intercultural dialogue and transnational cooperation, the establishment and maintenance of constructive and collaborative relationships between coastal populations of the Mediterranean Sea.
The MED-GREEN project will bring further contributions of knowledge and results in the following main macro areas:
1. Linguistic field. Highlight the phenomena of a semantic-cognitive, enunciative and pragmatic nature of discourses on bioregionalism and environmental sustainability.
2. Characterization of the concrete with RA. An extensive physical-mechanical characterization of the concrete with RA (both fine and coarse), including durability (water penetration, absorption chloride, carbonation, resistance to freezing and thawing), will be carried out within the project.
3. Economic and environmental field. Within the project, a complete life-cycle assessment will be proposed on the selected concrete typologies. The analyses will clearly show the economic and environmental benefits in the use of recycled materials in the concrete. Furthermore, validated eco/safe-driving training program and performance monitoring protocols will be provided in an attempt to promote standardization of transport procedures among the countries.
4. Engineering design practice. At the end of the project, refined design rules/approaches to be used for sustainable concrete will be proposed.
5. Social, cultural and political field. At the end of the project we want to develop a Mediterranean network of local experiences of environmental self-sustainability through dialogue with institutional and corporate figures. Furthermore, we want to organize educational proposals in schools both on the critical use of language in relation to environmental sustainability issues, and on existing bioregional sustainable practices.
