Venturing is a long-standing program similar to Scouts BSA that focuses on high adventure, advanced leadership skills, personal growth, and service to both your community and the world.
While Scouts BSA focuses on learning camp/scout skills and leadership, Venturing takes this to a whole other level only available due to it's exclusivity to 14-21 year old participants. The program pushes you to challenge your skills; learn how to lead, even if not directly; and learn about yourself as you do so; all of this while still being accessible to those new to the program, or even the outdoors!
While Scouts BSA is significantly assisted by the adults, Venturing is free range, the crew members come up with all the ideas, plan all the trips, and more! While the adults are there for support, safety, and mentorship.
Scouts BSA and Venturing are both BSA programs, so the skills you learn in one can directly translate to the other! If you enjoy your scout troop, Venturing is probably a great place for you too!
From climbing and COPE, friendship and fellowship, to hiking and camping, and everything in between or even outside, Venturing does it all! The crew members decide what their passion is, they plan it, and they do it! All led by the youth!
Different crews do different things! One crew might love hardcore camping and hiking, but another might be passionate about museums and outdoor history - the program becomes what the participants want, and still maintains the same core ideas!
Mecklenburg County Council has plenty of crews who'd love to meet you! Click the button below to take a look at our crews, learn where they meet, how to get in touch, and stop by the Photo Gallery on the way to see what they do!
If the first crew you check out isn't really your jam, don't get discouraged! Our crews are all unique, so if one doesn't float your boat, We understand! Feel free to stop by a different one!
