ME/CFS can be lonely. Social groups improve our quality of life and mental health. But many of us can't keep up with our friends and family. We slowly isolate ourselves, often without even noticing.
There are options for socializing
Local support groups can be a great way to meet others who understand our limitations...if you have the energy for those excursions. Online forums and support groups offer a great way to connect with others even when we're stuck in our homes or beds.
Humans are social creatures. We thrive with connection and validation. We need social communities that share our interests while bringing joy into our lives.
And, like the range of humanity, there is an array of groups with differing vibes. Check out the menu for a variety of ways to find social communities for you to explore.
These groups are not a replacement for medical advice or mental health therapy. Most of these social groups are administered by ME/CFS patients with limited energy, and populated with equally unwell members. These are not crisis groups or safety nets. If you are in crisis and need immediate assistance, please contact your local crisis line. Links to find those resources are included on our Suicide & Crisis Resources page.
