In most MFIs, the outstanding loan balance amounts to more than 90% of their assets. The asset of the Microfinance Loan Portfolio is the amount owned by the institution's clients. The loan portfolio is also referred to as an outstanding or current active actual loan. The loan portfolio is the main revenue asset of the MFI. This is the main product of the business and the reason for the existence of MFIs. It is therefore imperative that MFIs maintain very high portfolio quality for long-term financial viability.
