The Meadows Valley Fire District was formed in 1969, prior to becoming a taxing district the department was owned and operated by the Village of New Meadows. The Meadows Valley Ambulance service was created in the early 70's, The service was created by local volunteers and money donated by local businesses that purchased the first ambulance. In 2001, Meadows Valley Fire and Meadows Valley Ambulance combined in a new fire station, while maintaining 2 different services. The Fire was its own taxing district, while the ambulance was a private service. In 2015, Meadows Valley Ambulance Service which was struggling to support itself became a taxing district as well. An agreement was set up between the Adams County Commissioners and the Meadows Valley Fire district to oversee the new ambulance service. The Fire District now owns the Ambulances and equipment and manages the day to day operations, with funds provided by the county under its own EMS taxing district. With this the Fire and EMS became "one house" with cross trained personal and now 2 full time EMT/Firefighters during the day. The Fire Department is consisted of all volunteers minus the paid position of a Fire Chief as of 2021, Which oversees both Fire and EMS operations.
