Worked on projects related to biomass ash slagging, renewable aviation fuel production, gasification/co-gasification of biomass, municipal solid waste, and sewage sludge to produce hydrogen-rich syngas with collaborators from Australia, China, and India.
Reviewed the current advancements in the above-mentioned fields, outlined the projects, and finalised the research objectives to fill current knowledge gaps.
Commissioned and re-commissioned the furnace/gasifier to conduct the experiments to achieve the research objectives.
Developed experimental methodology, curated, analysed, and validated experimental data.
Understood the influence of potassium and magnesium on bio-ash slagging and resultant slag-flowing characteristics under a mild reducing environment.
Developed a model for the slag droplet flow and used this model to back-calculate the viscosity and other properties of the bio-slag.
Enhanced the oxidation of gaseous elemental mercury using steel slag waste under various experimental conditions.
Conducted qualitative analysis of tar based on tar sampling conditions for empty fruit bunch gasification.
Assessed the gasification applicability of municipal waste-derived solid fuel and compared the results with established solid fuels like coal and biomass.
Enhanced the gasification performance of treated solid recovered fuel residue by using minerals bed and biomass waste blends.
Conducted a comparative study on the gasification of solid refuse fuel in a downdraft fixed bed and bubbling fluidized bed reactors.
Assessed the gasification performance of sludge cake pre-treated by hydrothermal carbonization.
Wrote state-of-the-art review articles on the production of renewable aviation fuels from the gasification of biomass and residual wastes, gasification of solid fuels (coal, biomass and MSW), development and challenges of concentrated solar power technologies, e-waste recycling technologies, and ash slagging mechanisms and viscosity measurement for low-rank coal and bio-slags.
Published 1 book chapter and 12 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals during my tenure.
