Mei trained as a Guardian from a young age and worked as one for a time alongside her dromaeosaur, Storm. However, during one of their night shifts, some beasts attacked, and they barely managed to escape. Mai was severely injured, and Storm died.

While Mei was recovering from her injuries, she visited the stables where the babies were kept, saw Storm's now-orphaned egg, and curled up around it. When the head handler at the time saw her, the baby had hatched, recognized Mei as its mother, and was sleeping snuggled up to the cat.

It was then that Mei realized she had chosen the wrong profession and went on to take on the position of handler's apprentice, later becoming the greatest handler of all.
