The success of the Montague Consolidated School music program would not be possible without the support and enthusiasm of our community! We would like to thank...
Our learners - for your sharing, risk-taking, kindness, and creativity as we explore music together! We applaud your bravery and hard work, and thank you for working together to create and maintain a safe space where all are welcomed, loved, and encouraged.
Our families - for supporting and encouraging your student(s) and our music program! The time you spend helping your learner practice songs, attending concerts, and working to help grow our music program does not go unnoticed. We appreciate you!
Our Staff - for your time, flexibility, and assistance with our music program. We see you cheering on your students, and jumping in to help with performances and special events, making lifelong memories for our learners. Thank you for everything you do!
Our Community - for your encouragement, support, and donations! Our community consistently steps up, whether that be anything from donating old instruments or offering free advertising for our community events. We appreciate your collaboration, and your smiles and open hearts when greeting our students. Thank you for supporting music in our community!
At Montague Consolidated School we are proud to offer a thriving music program, where students have the opportunity to play, sing, move, create, and discover a love of music. Carefully curated learning experiences based on students’ interests, skills, and the PEI Music Curriculum create a dynamic and exciting program across all Kindergarten - Grade 6 general music courses. Our program goal is for students to feel proud in their instrument playing and singing abilities, be confident in creating and sharing their ideas, have a basic understanding of music terminology and multiple ways of musicking, and to discover ways in which they connect with music. We have a strong focus on teaching the whole child, highlighting the importance of kindness, mutual respect, collaboration, critical-thinking, and community.

When listening to and making music, the brain lights up like fireworks!
Playing a musical instrument engages practically every area of the brain at once!
Especially visual, auditory, and motor cortices
Practicing music strengthens the brain, allowing these skills to be transfered to other activities
Precision + creativity = both sides of the brain being used
Musicians may solve problems more effectively and creatively due to their developing skills
Musicians often have higher executive functioning
Musicians show enhanced memory functions
I measure success through the musical and personal development of the students. Through careful assessment and documentation, I will track the acquisition of musical skills and learning outcomes for each student, and will ensure our program remains successful through the development of kind, capable, and artistic young musicians.
Learners measure success by noticing their progress throughout the years, and building their musical confidence as they gain new skills. Students will feel successful when they are excited and proud of their learning.
Parents/Guardians will measure success through their student's sharing of their learning. Through at-home discussions, school and community performances, and observation of their child's musical development, parents will know our program is successful when they see their happy and musically capable students shine.
Admin measure success by the development of musical and artistic students, and the students' happiness and comfort as soon as they walk in the music room, on stage, or in any other musicking venue. Admin are always invited to join our music classes, and join in music making with our classes.
We will know our program is successful when we see buy-in and support from our entire staff. Seeing our staff encouraging and supporting our students in their musical endeavours, and volunteering to assist with major music productions such as musicals and concerts. We believe in community, and when our entire school community works together, we can create lifelong memories for our learners and community alike!
Provide clear communication of events and expectations to the 450 students who participate in our courses and their families/guardians
