Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest departments of Malda College. The Department was established in 1944 initially with Inter-Science Course. Then Three year B.Sc General Course was started in the year 1948 and finally Three year B.Sc Honours Course in Mathematics was introduced in the year 1969. Presently, it is one of the important constituent of the Faculty of Science which aims to provide quality education to the students and tries to develop mathematical interest among the students necessary for pursuing higher education in Mathematics.

At present, the Department offers a Three year Honours Course in Mathematics in CBCS Curriculum under university of Gour Banga with an intake capacity of 118 seats. B.Sc General in Mathematics is also offered as General course. The Department feels pride to state that in almost every year, our students were among the university rank holders in the Final Examination of University of Gour Banga.


Resources:

Computer Laboratory: The department has an well equipped computer laboratory for the students.

Seminar Library: The department also runs a seminar library for the students.


Innovative methods of Teaching and Evaluation:

  • In each year, for each semester, a Google classroom is installed for the students which virtually provides a classroom like platform where the assigned teachers of the department address the problems of the students even after normal class hours in both academic and non-academic areas. The teachers also shares the study materials and gives assignments to the students through this platform.

  • Online Class Test is taken using Google forms where the students can see their grades within few minutes after completion of the test.

  • Lecture sessions were arranged delivered by eminent resources persons for the benefit of the students.

  • Some classes involving the use of ICT in teaching learning practices are arranged in regular basis.

Teacher-Student relationship

The department boasts of a healthy teacher-student relationship, where the teachers are easily accessible to the students for any kind of support and teachers address them with love and affection. The spirit is celebrated in the Teachers Day Programme or in any other department programme organized by the students.
