Who We Are

The Corporal Joseph Whitehead Marine Corps League Detachment is a local veteran group designated to assist in matters which are relevant to active duty personnel, retirees and veterans of all of the branches of service within the southern portion of Baldwin County, Alabama.

We support the Toys for Tots efforts working with the Marine Corps Reserve and Toys for Tots Foundation to raise millions of dollars for the youth of America, collect and distribute millions of toys all across the United States. This support allows the Marine Corps (Active and Reserve) to focus more of their resources on mission preparation.

Our detachment is integral in the support to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Semper Fi Fund, Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, Mack's Marines, and the Young Marines.

Through the Marine Corps League, we have several scholarship/award programs including the Marine Corps University LtGen Lejeune Leadership Award, Delta Dental Scholarship, and college scholarships through the Marine Corps League Foundation.

One of our most critical missions is assisting transitioning Marines and their families in support of the Marine Corps' Marine for Life program. We work with assisting service personnel navigate the Veterans Affairs system with our Volunteer Assistance Veterans Service and provide support to the Veterans Service Office in Foley, Alabama. We work with the local Marine recruiters to assist young enlistees and their families navigating the delayed enlistment program as well as the high school NROTC units and the Young Marines program to provide mentorship. As a member of the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, we are available to provide community support and support our local businesses with monthly get togethers.

We have many programs supporting our Marines, their families, and the Baldwin County community:

Scouting/Eagle Scout Program

Marine Roses Program

POW/MIA Remembrance

Rifle and Pistol Competition Matches

Volunteer Assistance Veterans Service (VAVS)

Color Guards

Community Outreach

Our main mission is, and always will be, to provide support to Marines and FMF Sailors in any feasible way we can. Among our membership of mostly veterans, we have been through the adjustment to civilian life and know what resources are available. It is our hope this website can provide some answers or at least guide you to someone who can assist you along the way. That is the meaning of Same Team, New Mission. As such, we want you to know that Semper Fidelis means for a lifetime. We thank all of our veterans for their service and are available to provide guidance to any military member who requests it. We have other service veterans in our organization and are not only for Marines.

Our area of operation is Southern Baldwin County, Alabama from south of Robertsdale to the Gulf of Mexico and includes the communities of Summerdale, Elberta, Magnolia Springs, Foley, Fort Morgan, Orange Beach, Gulf Shores and Perdido Beach and all of the unincorporated areas in between. Semper Fidelis!

The prime authority of the League is derived from its Congressional charter and from its annual National Convention held each August in different major U.S. cities throughout the nation. It is a not-for-profit organization within the provisions of the Internal Revenue Service Code 501(c) (4), with a special group exemption letter which allows for contributions to the Marine Corps League, its Auxiliary and subsidiary units, to be tax deductible by the donor.
