HOW TO FIND YOUR ORGANIZATION
Search the public Airtable lookup by Detachment #, detachment name, Department name, or Profile ID. Every detachment should display its Detachment # and official name plus its MCL Profile ID. Every Department should display its Profile ID. Use those identifiers when sending documents so information is applied to the correct record.
The dashboard uses three checks to assign its overall tracking status:
ROI: a current Report of Officer Installation is on file.
IRS/990: the required annual Form 990-series filing and IRS standing are verified.
SOS: the organization’s state corporate record and required report are verified as current, or the specific reporting requirement is verified as not applicable.
A Compliant dashboard label means these tracked checks are current. It does not certify every MCL, tax, fundraising, gaming, licensing, or other legal requirement. An exemption from an annual report does not remove the need to maintain the legal entity and comply with applicable state rules.
Detachment bylaws are required; Administrative Procedures are optional. Adopted documents must be consistent with Department and National rules and receive the required Judge Advocate approval. Bylaws and Administrative Procedures, when adopted, are tracked separately for review. A missing file does not change the dashboard’s three-check formula, but it remains an item to resolve. Use the Detailed Bylaws Tracker for file and review status. (National Bylaws Section 905.)
COMPLIANT: the tracked ROI, IRS/990, and SOS checks are verified current.
NONCOMPLIANT / NEEDS ACTION: at least one tracked item needs correction or supporting proof. Read the note to distinguish a confirmed problem from information not yet verified.
PENDING: proof shows a response, filing, or letter was submitted and the organization is waiting for the IRS, state, Department, or National. The note identifies the last action and date; official confirmation is needed before the case is resolved.
NO FILING REQUIRED: the specific state filing requirement was verified as not applicable. Other state obligations may still apply.
CLOSED / INACTIVE: a confirmed closed detachment is removed from the active public tracking list and retained in internal historical records.
A missing public IRS result does not by itself prove revocation. The IRS automatic-revocation list is historical, so an organization can remain listed after reinstatement. Verify current status using the reinstatement letter, later IRS ruling data, or IRS confirmation. IRS guidance on confirming reinstatement.
HOW TO REQUEST AN UPDATE
Provide the organization’s Detachment # and name or Department name, Profile ID, and the supporting proof. Useful proof includes an ROI, IRS acceptance record or correspondence, SOS filing confirmation or certificate, and the final approved bylaws if available. The tracker is updated after the information is matched and verified. Do not place full EINs or private correspondence in a public note.
