WHAT CAN YOU DO AT FRESNO STATE - Photo Essay by: Gregory Abella
Fresno State offers students tons of things to do on campus, ranging from study areas, dining, entertainment, clubs/organizations, and sporting events, year-round from fall to spring.
Popular Hangout Spots
The Fresno State Library is a popular spot to study, do homework, meet up with a group, do research, or simply lounge and grab a Starbucks coffee. NOStudents can book a study room, find a quiet study area, conduct project research, or get with a librarian or tutor. A campus favorite, the library is always a go-to hang-out spot for the student body.
Ribbon cutting on the 84,000 square foot Resnick Student Union took place in Fall 2022 and ever since, it has been a magnet, attracting students and faculty to congregate, dine, hold meetings and multipurpose events. This modern building with state-of-the-art technology is a popular place for students before, in between, and after classes to grab something to eat, study, or simply take a much-needed break with friends.
The Fresno State University Student Union is a landmark and central gathering place for students. As the predecessor to the Resnick Student Union, for generations, the USU has been a focal point for students to study, lounge, dine, and socialize. Countless events, speeches, debates, and study sessions have taken place here over the years.
For students looking to get their minds off homework, academics, and deadlines, the USU offers bowling and billiards to either knock 'em down or rack’em up. Bulldog Bowl is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with 12 lanes and 13 billiards tables. Open to the public as well, students get a discount on both the bowling alleys and the billiard tables. Students can even host a birthday party or other special event at Bulldog Bowl.

Places to Eat
When it comes to finding a bite to eat on campus, students do not have to search far. The RSU has plenty of options to choose from.
Taco Bell is a favorite with an inexpensive menu.
For those students with an appetite for a tasty burger, The Habit provides a satisfying selection of options and sides to pick from, located conveniently downstairs in the RSU.
Also found in the RSU is Toss-N-Chop with a healthier menu of salads and wraps to order or build your own. Freshly made soups are also available daily.
At The Bucket, Pizza lovers can find Me-N-Eds pizza, a burger, chicken strips or vegan and vegetarian items. Located in the University Center Building, this social spot is ideal for having lunch with friends or watching the game after a long day of classes.
Students on the go or break, craving Chinese food, have Panda Express inside the University Student Union to order something quick before that next class.
Inside the food court are other food and drink options for students including Subway Express, Fresno State ice cream, Crave Cookies, and more. Juice It Up! has fruit smoothies, bowls, and other juice selections. Finding something to munch or sip on by yourself or with friends is a no-brainer at the food court.
Students in need of an energy boost while studying in the library can walk up to the 2nd floor and order their favorite Starbucks hot or cold drink. Hitting the books can cause hunger, so students can grab a Starbucks sandwich, pastry, or snack here too.
The University Dining Hall is located near the on-campus student dorms. There are food stations and areas to relax, socialize, and eat meals morning, noon, and night.
Clubs, Organizations, & Sporting Events
With over 300-plus clubs/organizations to join, discovering something with a student's interests is easy to find and get involved. From the chess club to rugby to a fishing club, there is something for everyone. Whichever hobby or interest a student is passionate about, there is a group or club for them to join.
For students interested in fraternity or sorority membership, there are over 30 to choose from. From Alpha to Zeta, students can experience Greek Life on and off campus by getting involved in a frat or sorority.
All year round, sporting events take place on campus. Student tickets are discounted so games are inexpensive and popular events. The fall semester is all about football. The Dog Pound student section is where students cheer and display school spirit together with the Bulldog mascot TimeOut. Home game tailgating is a tradition for valley residents and students. Spring semester offers baseball, softball, and basketball games for major sporting events. The Diamond Dogs draw crowds for both men's and women's games. Hooping it up on the court, Save Mart Center is home to both men's and women's basketball teams.
Vintage Days is a spring tradition for Fresno State students. The annual event, held on-campus, just celebrated 50 years. Live music, vendors, food booths, games, and student clubs provide a solid weekend of activities to participate in. Everyone is welcome to attend this free and popular landmark event.
For students living on campus, there are plenty of things to keep busy with. Aside from all of the events that take place in the spring and fall, student housing activities include playing volleyball on the volleyball courts, BBQs, and swimming in the spring. There is a fitness center for dorm students to exercise and stay active. The patio area near the dorms provides a calm and quiet space to unwind or socialize with friends.
