Coaches DO NOT tolerate; poor attitude, lack of effort, distracting behavior, breaking team or school rules, poor sportsmanship, or lack of accountability.
Parent Information: This program is funded by school funds. The program does not have the funds to provide transportation to/from away games. We do appreciate any donations. Any donations go directly to the program to pay for equipment, uniforms, jackets, balls, etc. We also need team parent volunteers for both the JV & Varsity teams. If you would like to contribute or help with any team needs please reach out directly to Coach Trevor tbrady@srcs.k12.ca.us or Coach Carlos ccastaneda@srcs.k12.ca.us

How can I make myself stand out at tryouts?
To make yourself stand out at tryouts, focus on mastering fundamental & basic skills, be versatile, can you play more than one position, be able to adapt to situations quickly, show that you are fit, display a positive attitude, and demonstrate coachability. We are not focused on “flashy” players or those who play for themselves.
What is the style of soccer played at MCHS?
The style of soccer played at our school emphasizes teamwork, possession-based play, and quick transitions.
What are the benefits of being a part of the Men’s Soccer team/community?
Being part of our Men's Soccer team/program offers benefits such as discipline, responsibility, physical fitness, be able to request credits for P.E (after the end of season), play with others who share the same passion, camaraderie, skill development, leadership opportunities, and a sense of belonging. We take pride in being part of this successful program.
Does the school provide transportation to/from away games?
Unfortunately no, the school doesn’t provide transportation to/from away games. This soccer program is school-funded. We rely on parents to transport players to/from games.
What do I need to show up at tryouts?
Be sure to bring; a water bottle, soccer cleats, shin guards, running shoes, appropriate/comfortable athletic clothing (shirt, shorts), and water gear (if it rains which it will throughout our season).
Can I play other sports at the same time as soccer?
We (the Soccer Program) don’t have objections when student-athletes want to play two sports at the same time. Please be upfront about this and explain the situation. You will also need to speak to your other coach (2nd sport you’re interested in) to make sure it’s fine with them.
Do we play when it rains?
We sure do! Games don’t get canceled if it rains. Rarely does a game get canceled/postponed due to rain since we play on turf fields. Be prepared to bring appropriate clothing for when it rains.
What is the expected level of fitness for tryouts?
We do expect you to be fit & ready on day 1 of tryouts. As you may know, soccer involves a lot of running so being in shape will be crucial. For example, you should be able to run a lap around the track in under 1 minute 30 seconds. You should be able to complete a “Big Puma” within a reasonable time limit. We do allow water breaks during practice.
How many players will make the team?
The amount of players who make the team isn't definitive. It depends on the amount of players, team needs, etc. It varies from season to season. It can vary from 18 to 25 players per team. Last season we had about 23 players on JV & 23 on Varsity
Will there be cuts, and if so, how will they be determined?
For the past several seasons we had to make cuts based on the number of players to try out. Unfortunately, we are not able to take on everyone who tries out, it's just not possible. Cuts depend on a variety of factors; fitness, coachability, attitude, adaptability, and skill. For young players (freshmen) realistically speaking there’s a small chance of making Varsity based on the number of returning players.
What is the schedule like for practices & games?
The season starts at the end of Oct and goes into the middle of February. During that time, expect to have practice 2-3 times a week for about 1:30-2 hours long, 2-3 games a week once the season starts. The first half of the season is non-league games, 2nd half is league games (we play every team twice) home & away. On average, we play about 19 games a season.
