Prompt: Add a page of text on your initial thoughts about uses for this technology, assuming you were viewing it through your phone, and then through a pair of AR glasses that you were always wearing.
I think using augmented reality on a phone creates a more enjoyable experience for users. Using Pokemon Go as an example, it makes an ordinary setting into a place of fun through the interactions you can do with the application such as meeting up with people to do group activities (trainer battles, gym battles, trading, lures), and exercise (application doesn’t perform as well in a moving car compared to walking to Pokemon or Poke stops to get items. Never would I imagine taking a picture with a Pokemon that doesn’t have to be photoshopped, and this is with only one application. There’s probably other applications that when pointing to a specific building or monument which could tell you the history of it.
In terms of augmented reality glasses, I think they would be more dangerous than using a phone. If for some reason you’re walking across the street looking at your augmented reality, it takes less time to look up from your phone than to take off augmented reality glasses or turning them off to react to any danger. Some upsides to augmented reality glasses is that you get to see the augmentations straight to your eyes, hands free. It’s probably more useful to use the augmented reality glasses when you aren’t surrounded by potential dangers, but I think it’s still a fun idea to see life in an augmented way.
