Education is about growth. From growing our students to our staff, improving and continually looking to get better is the driving force of education. As a school leader it is my job to promote continual growth as well as look to grow myself. I want to help my staff get from good to great by working with them to achieve their goals like others have done for me. I want to work with students to help them grow into life long learners and develop the tools necessary to be successful. I want to grow in my profession because education is ever evolving and I want to be at my best to help those that I serve.
Our schools should be a consistent environment where students and staff know they are safe at all times so learning can take place. I believe that it is the administrations responsibility to protect the learning environment and empower teachers to do the same in their classrooms. I also want to support my teachers and by removing obstacles that disrupt the safety of their classes.
The culture of the school can be felt from the moment you walk in the front door. Culture matters and cultivating a positive one is important to the success of the staff and students. As an administrator I believe that it is our responsibility to protect and create the culture and this is done by building relationships with staff and students, being visible in the school and during events, and empowering others to take ownership of the culture themselves. To me the ideal culture embodies the following beliefs about administration: administers are responsive to the teachers/staff's needs, they will look to remove barriers from staff and students, and praise in public and correct in private.
Each student has the right to an equitable education. Period! It is the opportunity of the school to seek out inequities and correct them, creating more and new possibilities for students to excel. As an administrator this is a calling, to fight against injustice and unfair tradition, and seek out ways to promote inclusion and fairness and be a students champion and role model. In order to leave a legacy and improve not only the community but to leave the world a better place, leaders must promote equity in their building.
