Today, Wednesday, May 12th is School Nurse Appreciation Day. Medford Middle School CCSR students wanted to recognize the school nurses at the McGlynn Middle School and the Andrews Middle School. This project was orchestrated by McGlynn 6th grade student leaders Nathan Quinn and Charlotte Foti as well as Andrews Middle School 6th grade student leader, Abigail Charlton. The 6th graders met with the McGlynn and Andrews PTO to collaborate efforts to recognize the McGlynn School Nurses, Karen Breen and Carla Constanza, and the Andrews School Nurse, Avery Hines, and nursing student Kaleigh O’Keefe. Middle School CCSR students wanted to recognize school nurses for all of their hard work and dedication every year, but especially this year. Without our wonderful school nurses, we would not have been able to return to school as safely as possible. Students in grades 6-8 created handmade cards over the past several weeks to show their thanks and appreciation for the school nurses. CCSR student leaders delivered the homemade cards, flowers and words of appreciation to the school nurses this morning. This project was a collaboration between the CCSR, McGlynn Middle School PTO and the Andrews Middle School PTO. The CCSR is funded by grants from The Cummings Foundation and the Krystle Campbell Community Betterment Project.
Today the Middle School PTO threw an Appreciation Lunch for our teachers and staff. Catered with generous support by Simple Fare Medford and parent donations, it was a grab-n-go delicious spread.
We also gave out T-shirts (made by Body Toppers Printing in Medford) for all the staff to wear with pride because everyone should know that they are Pandemic Teaching Heroes!
For the remaining weeks of May, the PTO will be offering the teachers and staff snacks and treats on different themes to show our appreciation.
To donate contributions for our teacher appreciation efforts please send a check into school made out to "McGlynn Middle School PTO" or use our PayPal Account - paypal.me/McGlynnMiddlePTO
Our Online fundraiser was a great success - it raised $561!!!!
Thanks to all the families that participated (special thanks to ones that came back for more after getting their first delivery and tasting them!)
Hopefully this will be a great tradition for the PTO to continue.
We had a great in-person and virtual bake sale. Raising $765 altogether. Special thanks to our $200 donor, and to Rep. Paul Donato for his donation and for Mayor Lungo-Koehn for coming by to say hello and supporting our sale. Extra special thanks to the families who donated items for the sale
You can still directly donate to the PTO through our Pay Pal page.
We welcomed back parents to the school year with our first PTO meeting on Wednesday, October 7th. Top of the agenda for this meeting were fundraising ideas and the announcement of our official Non-Profit status.
Please see the attached document for more information from the meeting - MINUTES
“Meet and Greets” have been scheduled for September 14th and 15th so students and families will have the opportunity to meet their respective teachers. The “Meet and Greets” will take place outdoors and will follow appropriate social distancing guidelines (which includes 6 feet of distance), and masks will be required. Given that large groups of people are not able to congregate, the “Meet and Greets” will not be extensive in time and staggered by last name. At the “Meet and Greets” students will:
receive a welcoming packet with their individual school schedule
pick up a Chromebook if they signed up for one in advance
meet their teachers for the upcoming school year
pick up supplies and/or books needed for the start of the school year
If families plan to drive to the “Meet and Greets,” please park in the Hormel Stadium parking lot located in front of the school and walk over to the school. Students should take a backpack to the event to carry home their supplies. The middle school teachers will be spread out in the school yard and behind the school primarily by their grade level team or Unified Arts distinction. Signage will be posted to help students locate their teachers.
Please review the mandatory safety protocols (attached) that will be in place in order to ensure that this will be both an informative and safe experience for all participants.
Please adhere to the schedule below for your arrival to the school. Your cooperation in adhering to this staggered schedule will help us control the flow of people in attendance at a given time period:
- September 14: 10-12pm Grades 6-8, Last Name A-D
- September 14: 12:30-2:30pm Grades 6-8, Last Name E-I
- September 15: 10-12pm Grades 6-8, Last Name J-P
- September 15: 12:30-2:30pm Grades 6-8, Last Name Q-Z
Once again, if your child is in need of a Chromebook to access their learning, please fill out this online form.
The PTO held it's final meeting of the year on June 9th. Voting took place for the new Executive Board and volunteers organized for the new Grade Parent Liaisons Roles. The end of year finances were reviewed and the costs for the the 8th grade moving on signs and celebration were announced. This was a strange year, to be sure, and next year will be difficult to run our regular fundraisers if social gatherings are still prohibited. We are always looking for new ideas for fundraising and with our impending 503C status we will be able to apply for grants and offering work place matching for donations.
The annual scholastic book fair took place in February and March 2019 and raised $1,000 for the middle school. We thank the volunteers who took the daytime shifts in order for individual classes to visit and all those who worked and/or attended the family night. We add special thanks to those families who bought books from the teachers and library wish lists.
