Equity in Education: Inspired by AEA's desegregation-driven history, MCEA continues to advocate for diverse representation and equitable school policies.
Local + Statewide Power: MCEA leverages AEA's legislative clout, legal resources, and training programs to benefit Montgomery County educators directly.
Sustained Growth: The relationship with AEA/NEA has enabled MCEA to evolve from a negotiating body into a full-service professional association supporting educators throughout their careers.
Though before MCEA's founding, this year was pivotal statewide: the Alabama Education Association (originally established in 1856) merged with the historically Black Alabama State Teachers Association (founded in 1882). This unification brought together educators across racial lines under AEA's banner, reinforcing a mission of equity and collective empowerment.
