This is an article that I am very passionate about. As the News Editor of the Daily Wildcat, I got approached by a Students for Socialism group known as Desert Rising Tucson. They pitched an idea of a story to me on mass surveillance on the University of Arizona campus with the installation of 54 AI-enhanced automated license plate readers – under contract with Flock Safety, a surveillance technology firm that had numerous controversies with the ACLU. Unfortunately, some local press beat me to the initial coverage of the story. That said, I still wanted to take a different approach with a folo to those stories. For my angle, I decided to analyze how this decision impacted student trust in the UA administration and what it said about the administration's priorities.
This is an article that I am incredibly passionate about. At the University of Arizona, we (used to) have seven cultural centers that catered to the distinct identities of marginalized students. In the midst of current President Donald Trump's executive order regarding DEI bans, the UA decided to consolidate these distinct centers into one 'multicultural hub' that is meant to be 'inclusive to all students.' I worked on two separate stories for this subject -- one on the administrative details and faculty reactions, and the other on student voices. This dealt with the administrative details, and was the first piece that the Daily Wildcat officially did on the subject.
This is a continuation of a previous article that I wrote regarding the University of Arizona's decision to consolidate their seven cultural centers into one 'multicultural' hub. While my previous story focused on the administrative decisions and faculty reactions, this one shares the more vulnerable student reactions.
This is a patient story I wrote under my internship at Children's Hospital Colorado. This is an incredibly moving story about Annabelle. While at a vacation in Belize, two sharks attacked Annabelles' hands and leg. After a leg amputation in Miami, Annabelle returned home to Aspen, Colo. Unfortunately, her journey was far from over. She experienced a rare infection that led her to spend a year of her life at Children's Colorado, undergoing revision surgeries and other treatments.
This is an article I wrote on how Black History Month was being celebrated on the University of Arizona campus. My main focus was on the African American Student Affairs cultural center and how Black students were able to find a voice in a predominantly white institution. I also worked with a lot of institutions in the Tucson community, such as the first segregated school in the community, which has since been transformed into a community center.
This is an article that I wrote under my internship with Children's Hospital Colorado. This article was written for the hospital's online "Q-Blog" platform, which highlights important research that is happening thanks to the expertise of our doctors. This particular article reflects on Children's Hospital Colorado (in collaboration with National Jewish Health) having the top Cystic Fibrosis clinical trial enrollment out of any medical center in the Therapeutic Development Network (TDN).
The University of Arizona is going digital with its student IDs. CatCards are now available on Apple and Google Wallet, offering students a new way to tap into campus life. Although this was somewhat of a mundane topic, I really enjoyed diving into this topic further to see what it means for the future of information technology on campus. It's always fun to enhance a seemingly simple story with interesting details.
This is an article that I wrote for Children's Hospital Colorado's Q-Blog platform on groundbreaking research occurring throughout the hospital. For this piece, I interviewed 3 different doctors throughout the hospital in the speciality of endocrinology. This is a really interesting patient-to-provider story that I wrote for Children's Hospital Colorado. It also brought in some of my interests around national policy for health care. Brandon Nuechterlein was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 15 years old. He received his life-saving treatment at Children's Colorado, and now he is a physician assistant at the very hospital that saved his life. He was recently appointed to a national advisory council to inform the US Secretary of Health on any advancements in stem cell research and bone marrow transplants.
This is a patient story that I helped to write, edit and design on a young pediatric patient at Children's Hospital Colorado named Amber Rose. Before she was born, doctors told her mother, Jayne, that she wouldn't survive. They even advised Jayne to find a mortuary. But Amber miraculously survived. That said, her story was far from over. Diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Amber had several open heart surgeries and complications that led her to several specialty doctors throughout the hospital. Now, although she still gets treated often, Amber is thriving and making new friends.
This is another patient story that I wrote for Children's Hospital Colorado. It covers Aleea's story, who was diagnosed with MMC, a rare form of spina bifida, before birth. During pregnancy, her mother received life-saving in-utero surgery that made Aleea's ability to thrive more possible.

These radiothon clips are little voice recordings from families and patients talking about their experiences at the hospital. It was my job to experiment with how we could see those come to life on social channels.
This is the original copy that I was working with. The governmental affairs department at Children's Hospital Colorado wanted to use this food drive flyer to give the community more insight into what they could donate.
