Holistic health & self-care: Islam encourages taking care of both body & soul. Being in a sacred space can remind you to make your fitness intentions for the sake of Allah (e.g., maintaining health to be a better servant to Allah, to be a better mother, daughter, sister etc.).
Stress Relief: Physical activity reduces stress, improves mood and provide mental clarity, especially through consistent exercise
Privacy: Women-only space where sisters feel comfortable exercising without concern for hijab or modesty.
Our weekly fitness class will occur on Sundays from 2:30-3:30PM at the Musalla Basement.
We will have men's side locked for privacy
Please arrive 15 minutes early for check-in & set-up!
Class Outline (60 minutes):
5 minutes: Open Reflection & Intention Setting (brief spiritual reminder, e.g., gratitude for health).
10 minutes: Intro to Breathwork
10 minutes: Seated warm-up
20 minutes: Standing flow
10 minutes: Cool-down
A chair will be provided for each participant.
Jazel (pronounced 'jay-zel') Martinez, a Muslimah, is a certified yoga teacher (RYT 200) with nearly a decade of experience, guiding mindful movement to build clarity and connection. She integrates elements of writing, breathwork, and art into her teaching to encourage inner introspection. Her background as an athlete and artist forms a practice that balances structure and creativity, offering a space to move with intention and evolve with life's seasons.
She received her 200 hour teacher training a year ago at Circle Yoga in DC. She has taught community classes at Circle Yoga and loves to teach friends and family at home.
Jazel carries professional liability insurance through BeYogi.
Each weekly session is $5 and you can pay via registration form. There is also an option to buy monthly pass.
