Michael Lawrence McCormick
Michael was born December 25, 1842 in Lower Canada (Quebec). Michael's baptismal record has yet to be found. Michael's existence only came to light in January 2003 after almost a decade of research. Michael appears in the 1861 census(April) being 19 years of age on his next birthday which was December 25th, however he does not appear in the 1871 census. I discovered Michael left Canada and went to the United States and join the military where he fought in the civil war. He would have crossed the boarder at Kingston, Ontario and enlisted in the US army at just outside Syracuse at Van Buren, New York on August 1, 1862. He was Mustered(sent to battle) September 1862. His military record states he was several battles but became seriously ill and spent time hospital. He survived the war and went to worked on a farm owned by a John Crego in Baldwinsville, New York outside of Syracuse. Michael married John's daughter Mary who's parents owned the farm where he worked, John & Sarah Crego. Michael and Mary had 2 children a son named Burton born 1870 and a daughter Lillian born 1872. They remained in the area for the rest of his life. Michael died in 1910 and is buried in Baldwinsville. There is a street named after the Crego family in Baldwinsville. It is not known if Michael ever returned to Canada or visited family.
