M.C. Bauman's Pipe Shine
In Short: This is an all-natural solution to keeping your pipes looking great from bowl to stem, and it helps to protect against the oxidation that naturally occurs on vulcanite/ebonite stems. But don't worry, those acrylic stems in your collection would also benefit from a good shine.
In Detail: After six years of research, development and testing, M.C. Bauman, Ltd. Pipe Shine was developed.
M.C. Bauman Pipe Shine has briar conditioning and protection properties that have been well evaluated and has been used as a sole briar finish to newly carved and restored pipes. The product is completely drying and contains no non-drying oils that have been demonstrated to be detrimental to both briar and ebonite materials. The ingredients as processed, now afford and have been demonstrated to, provide UV A/B protection, especially in retarding ‘oxidation’ of ebonite pipe stems. The product does not contain beeswax, as beeswax begins to discolor at 145 degrees Fahrenheit and has been demonstrated to contribute to rim char and discoloration of briar pipes.
As a proprietary blend of drying oils, waxes and gums, the unique preparation and chemistry in the process has yielded a 100% organic and vegan product made from 100% pure ingredients that is food safe when properly dry, 20 minutes after application to a briar tobacco pipe and stem. The product contains no petroleum-based product, synthetic solvent or non-drying oil. In addition, the product does not contain beeswax, as beeswax begins to discolor at 145 degrees Fahrenheit and has been demonstrated to contribute to rim char and discoloration of briar pipes.
Manufacturing of this product involves heating to 100 degrees Celsius/212 degrees Fahrenheit prior to bottling and is considered clean when it is bottled at this temperature. Stored in the capped bottle, is has an indefinite shelf life. None of the ingredients will ever go rancid, even years after application
This novel product will now serve an unrealized need in the tobacco pipe industry to provide maximum protection and preservation of both briar and ebonite based on the inherent properties of the materials, evidence-based research and extensive testing by experts in the tobacco pipe industry.
Application can be with a dropper, cotton swab or directly onto the external pipe stummel and stem. Buffing or shining of the pipe surfaces are best accomplished best with a micro-fiber cloth, 10-20 minutes after application to a clean pipe, naked briar and the pipe stem.
