The Story of Win$um Productions
Founded in 2016, Win$um Productions began with a simple but powerful idea: to create something truly unique for barrel racers in Northwest Montana. The inspiration stemmed from a desire to celebrate riders of all levels, from the 1D to the 4D, and ensure that everyone had an equal opportunity to succeed and be recognized.
As founder, Wendy McCaffree's journey into barrel racing production began long before Win$um was born. As a student at Montana State University in 1977, she started producing barrel racing jackpots and working as a secretary or flagger for team roping's. She continued this work throughout the years, and after her boys had grown, she refocused her efforts back on barrel racing—both competing and producing events.
The Birth of Win$um Productions:
In 2016, after years of experience and reflecting on the needs of the local barrel racing community, Wendy set out to create something special. The goal was simple: to offer a space where the top riders and horses in all divisions, from the 1D to the 4D, were equally valued and rewarded.
The Win$um Top Ten Series was born as a test run in 2016. In that first year, the person with the most points earned a saddle. The format was a success, but Wendy knew it could be improved. After reevaluating the point system and making some adjustments, we’re now celebrating 9 years of the Win$um Top Ten Series, and it’s grown into something incredible.
Growth and Evolution:
What started with a bucket full of prizes valued at $50–$75 and a single saddle for the winner has transformed over the years. By 2024, the total value of the prize package for the Top Ten competitors reached approximately $525 per person.
The membership fee has always been affordable, starting at $35, and it remains the same in 2024. In fact, we made it more accessible by switching from $35 per horse to just $35 per rider. One hundred percent of the membership funds go directly into purchasing the awards, and the balance is supplemented by jackpot profits. Win$um Productions is a self-sustaining organization, fueled by the support and volunteerism of the barrel racing community, including contributions from local businesses.
Wendy is truly grateful for the generosity and passion of everyone who has supported Win$um over the years. It’s their dedication and spirit that make this series so special.
A Heartfelt Thank You:
This journey has been more than just a passion project—it’s been a labor of love. From the very beginning, Win$um has been about more than just prizes and awards; it’s about fostering a community where all barrel racers are celebrated. Looking back on how far we’ve come, Wendy is filled with pride and gratitude.
A BIG thank you to everyone who has been part of this ride. It’s been a thrilling journey, and Wendy can’t wait to see what the future holds.
