Winning Hands

This is an example of the lowest-scoring winning hand.  It consists of 4 runs (chows) of any suits and a pair (... of eyes).  Basic score: 1 fan.

The next-highest scoring hand consists of 4 triplets (pongs) of suits, winds, or honours, and one pair of eyes.  Basic score: 3 fan.

A hand such as this must consist of honour tiles and tiles of a single suit.  The suit content may consist only of the eyes, or may consist of everything but one honour pong.  Basic score:  3 fan.

All the tiles in this hand must belong to a single suit.  Basic score: 7 fan.

This hand consists of the maximum possible collection of dragon triplets.  The remaining tiles can be any triplet or run of any suit or wind.  Basic score: 8 fan

Closely resembling the previous hand, this one lacks one dragon.  Basic score: 5 fan

This hand consists of one triplet for each of the four winds, and one pair of any tiles.  Basic score: 10 fan

One triplet for each of 3 of the winds, one pair of winds, and one triplet or run of any other tiles.  Basic score: 9 fan

Breaking the 4 x 3 + 2 pattern, this hand consists of a 1 and a 9 from each suit, and one of each honour tile plus a single duplicate of any of these tiles.  Basic score: 13 fan

This hand is an All triplets hand consisting entirely of end tiles (1 and 9) from each suit.  Basic score: 10 fan

Seven Pairs

An unusual hand:  no triplets at all, just seven pairs of anything.  Basic score: 4 fan

Nine Gates

Any single suit may be used for this hand.  It consists of 2 triplets (the three 1s and three 9s at either end) separated by a 2-8 sequence plus any other tile from the same suit.  Shown above are three possibilities.  All nine are listed below.  Basic score: 10 fan

Ruby Dragon

A red dragon triplet along with 3 triplets and a pair from the character suit make up this hand.

Jade Dragon

Like the Ruby Dragon hand, but using green dragons and the bamboo suit.

Pearl Dragon

Like the previous two hands, but using white dragons and the dot suit.
