Solving The Problem
Our Chapter recognizes that it can be intimidating and a struggle to transition to a high school level robotics program, so we decided to host a STEM summer camp for 5th-8th graders to give them a head start and dip their toes into coding and the engineering process. We also want to expose kids as early as possible to STEM projects so as to foster any interest they may have and help guide them to productive and successful futures.
This year, our Chapter hosted a STEM camp specifically focused on robotics! It was a four day camp from June 20 - June 23 for junior campers looking to go into robotics to have an opportunity to be introduced to our program. This camp involved mentoring and teaching students basic robot building skills and simple Vex code so that they could compete in a game designed by the mentors at the end of their training. Throughout the week, they were tasked in teams of three with various challenges to build their knowledge and skills for the final game. Let's see how it went!
